Advocay and Black Voices

Speak up or shut the F@@K UP!

One of those things that are near and dear to us is the impact that HIV is having on the African American Community. Specifically, speaking what it (HIV) is doing the African American Men in Metro Atlanta. Having said that we urge you to familiarize yourself with some of the facts: By now I am sure that you all aware of statistics, but I wonder has anyone ever explained to you what the implications are?

Considering the proportion of us who are HIV positive, why is it that we do not become more active in prevention, treatment and care issues? If we are going to Evolve as a community, would it not make sense that we begin to take responsibility for the world around us? Unfortunately HIV has become part of the world around us, is it not our responsibility to do everything we can to advocate on the behalf of our needs? If we don't do it for us, then who will?

It is estimated that as many as 38,000 people in Georgia are living with HIV or AIDS with and estimated 26,400 right here in Metro Atlanta alone. Of those 71% are Black!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As result of this statistic, The Evolution Project will do its part to support the brothers who are living with HIV. We are pleased to announce the newest component to our services called Speaking in Black Voices or BV for short. Black Voices is a contemporary meeting that builds support for those Brothas who are newly diagnosed with HIV. The meetings are weekly and extremely confidential. The purpose of the meetings will be to talk about what living with HIV is like, how to access services in Metro Atlanta, and just to get support from others who are in the same situation. Check our website for dates and times.

No longer do brothas have to feel ashamed and alone in dealing with HIV and all the baggage that comes with it. If you are interested in knowing more contact us.
